Introspective Analysis Essay

In a flashback, I remembered my dreadful early year experiences of putting something constructive together in writing. Sitting at the furthest corner of the library, I could not stop smiling at the thought of the shameful encounter my freshman year of high school where my dramatic English teacher read out my essay in front of the class. I cried to myself as my class mates thundered the classroom with outbursts. However, this marked the end of a shameful era to me and ushered in a new writing light in my life. Today I am a medium writer with great knowledge and skills in all writing aspects. Writing is now part of me, and I enjoy writing. As I take pride in my success and competent writing, easy as it may seem today, I also acknowledge that the journey has been long and tedious. In this essay, I review my background in writing and later on discuss my experiences in different formatting techniques as they play a core role in quality essay writing.
Writing skills are not inborn but rather nurtured and developed. My early years were marked by dark clouds in writing. I remember how much I would dread for English classes. Despite being a good orator in English, the same did not suffice in writing. The teacher would tell us to describe the things around us in writing, and he would read out in the class the best and the worst descriptive essays. I always used to appear among the poorest writers in the class which led to the teacher taking a keen eye on me. As a way of marking my trends in writing, she would always read my essay to the class loudly. I developed a low self-esteem as a result of the perennial outbursts in the class.
Writing strikes at the epicenter of one’s mindset. A preconceived notion regarding your ability in writing is a major influence on one’s writing command. Afraid to tell my parents what was happening in school, I took it upon myself to improve and prove my classmates wrong. I had to refocus on how I utilized my free time. I started familiarizing myself with kid’s articles in the magazines and newspapers in the library. I would borrow the library newspaper and immediately after finishing working on my assignment; I would go to my room and read through the articles. The desire for reading enhanced to reading kid-centric story books. With time, I realized how well I could brain storm imaginary essay’s. Finally, I could see a gold lining on the horizon. I now had the belief in me that I could outdo many classmates in writing.
Being a competent writer takes more than good grammar. From my writings, my teacher in fourth grade could highlight how different my essay was. I had learned more than just good use of grammar. In fourth grade, I was called upon by the teacher to explain in class to explain how to create suspense at the end of each paragraph in a narrative essay. It was all clear to everyone that I was no longer the underdog in writing anymore. Things changed fast and in eighth grade; I was chosen the debate club leader as well as the English representative in the class. This is alongside my other experiences such as participating in English writing contest which continued even in my high school studies. Today, I take pride in my role as a columnist in our weekly magazine. In my dreams, I look forward to writing articles in a national newspapers or magazine. Surely, the journey has been long indeed. However, I can confidently conclude that writing is all a mind game.
Diligence and research are prerequisite to academic writing. Writing academic essays and research papers calls for thorough research about the field you are dealing with. In my research, I always opt to use online databases since they provide credible information to virtually all topics in school. Research used to be hard for me at the beginning as I could not navigate my way through in the databases to get the article I want to read. However, with determination, and bearing in mind the need of a succinct exhaustive research work, I found my way around the databases. In just a few clicks, I can access the right article that I need to incorporate in my writing.
After research, crediting the sources used in the research is crucial. Academic writing requires one to present his own ideas. Presenting another person’s ideas as yours is termed as cheating and strict punitive measures are taken against such people. Writing is always hard without the knowledge on how to credit your sources. The epitome of the confusion is the format of presenting bibliography. Different lecturers require their work presented in various styles such as APA or MLA. However, after experiencing many difficulties in presenting my work, I was able to codify in my system the difference between the various referencing styles. Indeed, I can bear witness to the adage that practice makes perfect.
Alongside referencing bibliography, in-text citation is required for gradable research work. The citations help the reader of the work to identify where you incorporate an idea that is not yours. Just like bibliography, the citations are crucial to an academic work as they help to avoid taking credit for one’s work. Knowing how to incorporate an intent citation according to the style required is among various aspects that have made me a successful writer.
Finally, an academic essay is not complete without the right formatting of the document in the Microsoft Word. Worldwide academicians have recognized specific formatting modules of a research paper. Unlike the sources crediting sources, Microsoft Word formatting uniformly applies to all referencing styles. This makes the work even easier as it bears no confusion pertaining to the formatting to use with a specific referencing style. My frequent writing has built my knowledge in understanding how to format my academic writings.
In conclusion, writing is inclusive of various techniques and not just the use of grammar. Making a good writer does not mean that you must be a perfect writer. As described in this essay, the mindset is determining your writing powers. Having faith and believing that you can do better than your last paper creates room for motivation and determination. Certainly, better is no good if best is achievable.
