Although microcontrollers’ functions are similar to those of computers, they are specialized microcomputers and not computers. The basic computer architecture comprises control logic, registers, instruction register, instruction memory, Arithmetic Logic Unit, Input/output and accumulator as illustrated in figure 1 below.Conversely, microcontrollers simply comprise processors, peripherals, and memory.
