Grasshopper Lawns is a local family owned lawn are business that was started in 1964 in
the small town of Larksville Pennsylvania. The business started small and is now competing with
much larger lawn care companies. To stay competitive in the lawn care industry, Grasshopper
Lawns had had to make sure they are keeping up with their competition not only by providing
great tailored service to their customers, but also making sure to keep the competitive advantage
of offering special services to its customers (www.grasshopperlawns.com).
New Service
Grasshopper Lawns has decided to add a new program to its list of service offered to
customers. Grasshopper strives to ensure they are educated on all of the products they use on
their customers properties, so when a Grasshopper Lawns found out that there was an
opportunity to offer its customers a new service that they could tailor to every specific customer,
the company could not wait to learn all about it.
Mole Control
For many years Grasshopper Lawns has been asked if they offer any service that would
get rid of moles that were ruining customers lawns. Sadly, the company had to turn away
customers because even though they had tried in the past with different methods, none of them
seemed to work, until now. The employees of Grasshopper Lawns have done their research and
are excited to announce a mole control service that is guaranteed to work.
“Working together with customers and the knowledge about the quality products
available to eliminate moles from the beautiful lawns we treat,” will be the mission statement for
the new division of Grasshopper Lawns. The mole control applications will be an additional
lawn care service available to customers that not only already receive lawn care service, but to

potential customers that are having a problem with moles tunneling through their yards. The
reason Grasshopper Lawns will have the competitive advantage against its competitors is
because there is not a company that specializes and guarantees mole control to the extent that
Grasshopper Lawns will do.
Vision
Grasshopper Lawns mole control program is guaranteed to deter moles from customers
properties. The new mole control program is better than the previous program offered by
Grasshopper Lawns and its competitors because each program is tailored to meet the needs of
each individual customer. Other companies do offer a mole control service, but none of the
companies in the service area offer a program that is as intense as the one Grasshopper Lawns is
now offering. The management and technicians have had extensive training on how to take care
of these pesky rodents through Bell Laboratories (www.belllabs.com).
The vision statement for the new mole control program is: “Grasshopper Lawns is
determined to have the most effective mole control deterrents used by the most empowered
technicians in its service area.” The reason Grasshopper Lawns will maintain this vision
statement is because they are determined to stay up to date on all the training requirements
necessary to ensure the results are completely full proof and effective against moles and the
damage they cause to customers lawns.
The reason this service is important to lawn care customers is simply because the damage
that moles cause to lawns is horrible in Northeastern Pennsylvania. Many of Grasshopper Lawns
customers have been affected by these rodents and in the past, there was not enough time for
them or any other companies in the area to guarantee a service that will continue to make sure
the customers lawns are free from the rodent and the damages they can do to lawns.

Mission, Vision, and Value
Grasshopper Lawns mission statement is: “We will use the highest quality products and
resources available to achieve our commitment of superior service in a safe, healthy,
professional, fun, family oriented atmosphere with a continuous pursuit of excellence to our
employees and customers.” The mission statement for the new division of Grasshopper Lawns
mole control program is: “Working together with customers and the knowledge about the quality
products available to eliminate moles from the beautiful lawns we treat
(www.grasshopperlawns.com).” The mission statement for the company and the new service
align with one another because both state that the mission is to make sure the customer and
employees are aware of what is going on with their lawn. The mission statements also state that
the products they plan to use will be the best available and that the technicians are trained and
know how to use the products properly.
Grasshopper Lawns vision statement is: “To be a significant leader in our profession with
empowered employees, so that we may all achieve a successful livelihood.” The vision statement
for the new mole control service is: “Grasshopper Lawns is determined to have the most
effective mole control deterrents used by the most empowered technicians in its service area.”
The vision statements for both Grasshopper Lawns and the new mole control program show that
the main vision is to make sure the employees have the knowledge available to them to make
sure they can succeed at the job they are going to do. If a company has employees that are not
empowered to do the job that is asked of them, then the company cannot be successful. Any
good leader will make sure all of their employees are well trained. Empowered employees not

only make the company look good but will also make the managers look good in the eyes of the
customers.
Mission and Vision Guide
The mission and vision statements of the new division will guide the employees to make
sure they know what they are doing before they do it. The employees should know what is
expected of them and how they plan to see the plan through. The employees will be trained with
the best and most up to date training available to the company. As soon as a better product
becomes available, the team at Grasshopper Lawns will make sure to research the product to see
if it is better than the product they are using. If the product is found to have a better success rate
than the one currently in use, the employees will be trained how to use it and explained the
differences and why they chose to use it. Staying in contact with the manufacturers of the
products and constantly evaluating the products will ensure the customers are getting the service
they expect from Grasshopper Lawns.

Grasshopper Lawns is dedicated to quality customer service and satisfaction. Adding a
new service to the company will help to expand a small business. Making sure to train the
employees extensively about the products and services expected from them in regards to the new
mole control program will ensure a successful new venture for the company. Continuing to train
employees and research all products available will ensure Grasshopper Lawns new mole control
service is the best service in the area.
