I think the strategy that Dell has in place is very appropriate as far as their Board of Directors. I do believe that board of directors should know the business to some extent. They do not need to know the business inside out or be experts but know it enough that the strategies that they propose and decision that they make will be suitable for the business that they are in. I do think that the strategy that Dell uses can be used for any company in any industry. The issue that can arise and probably do arise is that the Board of directors after spending time in the business might want to tell the CEO how to run the company. As Dell’s CEO said in the video the purpose of having the Director Day is not for the directors to give them advice on technology but on things like evaluations and strategy. This can be avoided if there is a clear purpose to the board as to why they are spending time in the business.
