Expert answer:Screencast Presentation and Flyer - colle writers

Expert answer:Screencast Presentation and Flyer

Solved by verified expert:Project OverviewThis project requires you to complete two components. First, you will create a videopresentation (screencast) of your proposal. To accompany this presentation, the secondcomponent requires that you create a flyer complementary to the presentation.PresentationThe presentation is intended for an audience of interested stakeholders—probablymany of the same reader-users to whom you address your proposal. You should, therefore, consider these users’ needs, values, and attitudes, just as you did in theproposal. The final presentation deliverable will be in the format of a screencast thatcombines visual and audio.Perhaps the best way to complete the screencast is to open a presentation applicationsuch as PowerPoint, Keynote, or Google Presentation and create your slides. Then, using a screencast program (see below), record your delivery of the presentation(Please note: do not record your presentation using the PowerPoint record feature.PowerPoint—.ppt or .pptx—are not acceptable file formats for this assignment. Also, donot use your cell phone or other external recording device to record your presentation; itmust be in the format of a screencast). When complete, upload your screencast toYouTube or similar free video hosting service and submit the link through theAssignment Tool on our course Canvas site.More specifically, please follow the criteria below when creating your presentation:1. Follow the format of your proposal: a) introduce the issue/topic/opportunity, b)frame the current situation, c) discuss your project plan, d) and offer a briefconclusion, pointing toward the future.2. Incorporate at least 2 images such as pictures, graphs, charts, tables, etc. but noclip art. Note: do not include any images to which you do not have copyrightpermission.3. Each slide should contain fewer than 20 words (hint: list keywords or phrasesand expand through speaking.)4. Slides should demonstrate the principles of design (C.R.A.P.)5. Presentation must include your voiceover delivering the presentation. If using aprogram that supports picture-in-picture, it’s up to you if you’d like to include yourimage.6. The presentation must be between 4-5 minutes in length. Note: Excess of 5minutes will result in point deduction.7. Must include a works-cited slide for any works referenced during thepresentation. The final deliverable of this presentation must be in a screencast format—that combinesvisual and audio elements. In other words, the final deliverable is not solely a set ofPowerPoint slides with text and images.Perhaps the most accessible and free screencasting applications available areTechsmith Jing (http://www.techsmith.com/jing.html) and Apple QuickTime (Mac usersalready have this installed). Techsmith Camtasia, though not free, does offer a free trial. And there are other free screencasting applications available, though I am less familiarwith them. Find free options, freeware, or free trials, such as the ones I list above.Once you’ve completed your screencast you can submit it in one of two ways. First, thepreferred method is that you upload your screencast to YouTube or similar free videohosting service (such as screencast.com, for those who use Jing) and submit the linkthrough Canvas. The second method is to upload your screencast file to Canvas. Thefollowing are acceptable file formats: .mov, .m4v, .mp4, .wmv. Please note, however, that this may be the more cumbersome alternative because large file sizes are notalways supported in Canvas. Considering large file sizes, using the record presentationfeature within PowerPoint creates file sizes too large for Canvas. Because of this, donot record your screencast within PowerPoint—as mentioned above, PowerPoint is notan acceptable file format for this assignment.FlyerThe second component of this project is the flyer. The flyer complements thepresentation. Consider the flyer as a complementary document that captures the criticalpoints of your proposal in a visually appealing way. Therefore, you’ll want to includeinformation about the topic, presenter (you), recommendations, images, graphs, charts,or tables, and anything else you think might appeal to an audience of interestedstakeholders. Please adhere to the following criteria when completing the flyer:1. Must be an 8.5-inch x 11-inch document (you chose portrait or landscapeorientation)2. Includes pertinent information from your proposal (*hint: make sure there’s a title)3. Demonstrate principles of design (C.R.A.P.)4. Include fewer than 25 words5. Include at least 1 image (note: do not use images for which you do not havepermission)The final flyer should be submitted to Canvas as a PDF.As stated in the course syllabus this assignment is worth 90 points toward the finalgrade.**One final note: Regarding images, it is your responsibility to secure permission to useany

Writing in Action Statement
The issue at hand is the use of energy sources from fossil fuels that are not renewable,
hence causing a lot of harm to the environment and communities. The aim of the portfolio is to
use writing in coming up with a project proposal that can be used in convincing stakeholders to
support the project either through funding or participation. Writing is important as it leads one to
have an in-depth understanding of the issue being discussed and the proposed solutions. It
enables one to have an overview of the whole project in a systematic manner.

1.0 The Proposal
1.1The Issue
The issue being faced is that the continued use of fossil fuels namely natural gas, coal,
and oil are causing a lot of harm to the environment. The purpose of this proposal is to suggest
solutions to the problem caused by fossil fuels and alternatives that can be used. Fossil fuels
produce a lot of damage to the environment and people. Fossil fuels mainly cause damage due to
the emission of carbon dioxide when burned. The burning and release contribute to the
greenhouse effect, which leads to climate change (Stigka, et al., 2014). Because of more carbon
dioxide, there is less sunlight hence causing global warming. Apart from carbon dioxide, other
harmful gases like sulfur oxide and nitrogen. This leads to issues such as acid rain, smog, and air
pollution.
Fossil fuels also have hidden costs which are not represented in the market price despite
their adverse effects on people’s health and the environment. Such values are referred to as
externalities. The externalities which are easy to view are pollution or degradation of land, while
those which are less visible are costs of diseases like asthma and cancer, also brought about by
the fossil fuels (Yildiz, 2014). Such consequences are far removed from lives of the majority and
are only felt by a minority of the population. Waste products from fossil fuels are also harmful to
the environment. Individual communities can also be affected, and transportation of fossil fuels
from the mines causes air pollutions and can also lead to accidents and spills. It is important to
find a solution to this issue since the long-term effects to the globe are devastating. Fossil fuels
lead to global warming whose results are melting of ice glaciers, hence increasing sea levels.

1.2 The Current Situation
Currently, there are renewable energy sources that can be used as alternatives. Fossil
fuels can be regenerated, and examples are biomass, hydropower, diesel, geothermal, wind and
solar.
Up to the mid-1800s, wood was used all in many countries in supplying energy needs.
More consumers, however, moved towards using coal, petroleum and natural gas hence leading
to less reliance on wood. Fossil fuels, however, started causing harmful effects to the
environment hence there was a campaign to shift to better energy sources that could be renewed.
Renewable energy plays a crucial role when it comes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. It
also leads to a reduction in demand for fossil fuels. Since 2000 to 2016, the number of people
who consume biofuels and non-hydroelectric renewable energy sources has doubled due to
global campaigns to reduce global warming by reducing emissions of greenhouse gases.
Despite a lot of efforts by different international bodies such as the United Nations
Environmental Programme to shift towards clean energy, the use of fossil fuels is still high.
Several countries have suffered from the devastating effects of fossil fuels, for example, air
pollution causes the death of 7 million people annually (Dogan & Seker, 2016). This only means
that 1 in 8 global deaths is caused by air pollution emanating from the burning of fossil fuels.
The table below shows the statistic if types of energy that are being used and coal, natural gas
and oil are still at the highest percentages hence showing that very few people are using
renewable energy sources.

A survey of why many people are not taking up renewable energy shows that it is more
expensive regarding production (Stigka, et al., 2014). The renewable resources that are favorable
are mostly located in remote areas, and building power lines from such regions cause hefty
amounts.
1.3 Project Plan
To implement the project of introducing alternative renewable energy sources, the team
will have a project plan which will be implemented through the following steps:
Setting Project Goals-The first step will be selecting the project team and goal setting. This will
involve coming up with both short-term and long-term goals for the project. The short-term goals
will include:

Coming up with the most suitable alternative renewal sources
WRITING IN ACTION PORTFOLIO

Campaigning for organizations to start taking up renewable energy options

Educating the public on fossil fuels and their negative impact (Aslani & Wong, 2014)
8
The long-term goals will be

An increase in the number of people who take up renewable energy in the next 5 years

Embracing of sustainability efforts by companies

Ensuring new laws are passed which will lead to the reduction in the use of fossil fuels
(Aslani & Wong, 2014)
Setting Project Deliverables-This step will involve setting a list of the things that need to be
delivered. For the renewable energy project to be successful, the organization will set the
following deliverables (Dogan & Seker, 2016):
Identification of universal alternative energy sources- This will involve coming up with a
list of the most suitable energy sources that are renewable and long-lasting. The company will
look at energy sources like wind, solar power, etc.
Testing identified sources with the latest technology- The source that has been identified
will be tested to ensure that it is sustainable and can produce power. The source should also be
reliable and be able to sustain various industries.
Improving industries to use the identified energy sources-Once there is a confirmation
that the energy source can safely be used, it is important to bring industries on board so that they
use it. This will help the company to evaluate performance and look at the pros and cons of the
energy source chosen. It will also help the company to improve once issues have been noted.

Project Schedule – Once a project deliverable has been set, the company must come up with a
project schedule so that there is an organized way of project implementation (Aslani & KauFui,
2014). The schedule will have the activities that need to be undertaken, persons responsible and
timeline. The schedule is demonstrated in the Gantt chart below:

Project Supporting Plans-This will involve any additional plans that will support the
project. This involves coming up with human resources, communication and risk management
plans. The human resources plan can involve the use of 20 members as the key project team. The
risk management plan will involve setting up a risk committee to come up with all project risks
and their probabilities and impacts. The communications plan will mean setting up a solid plan
for communicating with all the project stakeholders.
1.4 Qualifications
The project will require the following specialists to be successful:

Project Manager

Project Engineer

Energy Specialist

Project Sponsor

Vendor-Technological Systems
1.5 Costs and Benefits
The project will be funded by an environmental non-governmental organization that is
highly focusing on sustainability especially when it comes to companies using company
resources. The significant costs associated with this project will be the human resources for the
project team, financial resources for the research and acquisition of the renewable energy source
while the ultimate resource is technological and this will be needed for testing and
implementation phases.

1.6 Conclusion
In summary, this project will contribute greatly towards encouraging organizations to
move to renewable energy methods hence reducing the harmful effects of non-renewable energy
to the environment and community. This is important as the world generally needs to reduce
dangerous emissions for the sake of a future safe planet. In future, if more industries take up
renewable energy sources, it will significantly reduce the number of people who fall sick due to
greenhouse emissions and reduce the adverse effects on land and water bodies (Aslani & KauFui,
2014). Thank you for your time, if you have any questions feel free to contact the project leader,
